Panna Tiger Reserve was once a private hunting ground for the erstwhile rulers of Panna. But now that it is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts from all over the world, the best way to explore this tiger reserve near Khajuraho is with a wildlife safari. Tiger sightings however are very rare here, and luck favors the very patient ones. The reserve is a good place for birdwatching, and you can enjoy sightings of animals such as sambar, antelope, chital, leopard, wild dogs, wolves, and hyenas. Panna Tiger Reserve remains open for tourists from October 15th till June 30th of the following year. November to March remains the peak season, owing to low temperature. Post monsoon, ie. from November to February, is a good time for birdwatching. April, May and June are extremely hot, but these months offer the best chances of tiger sightings.
